Cosmic summer starts in a few days, but as any
gardener in these parts is well aware, the heat and humidity have been
around for a while. They are mitigated only by the fact that some heavy
downpours have fixed what was shaping up in May to be a scary drought.
I
found myself in a shade garden recently with a stiff breeze, and the
combination proved quite pleasant. But afterward, the mugginess built to
such a degree that when I was in my 150-plot community garden over the
weekend I counted just five other souls toiling away.
